"Out of the Best Books": Inspiration on Family History & Temple Work
by Kathryn Grant

There’s nothing like a good book to recharge your spiritual batteries, especially on a topic as life-changing as family history and temple work.

In Refuge and Reality: The Blessings of the Temple, John H. Groberg shares his experiences as president of the Idaho Falls temple. Each chapter focuses on a particular experience and offers accompanying insights. Profound yet highly readable, this book is hard to put down and will give you much to ponder and enjoy.

Holy Places: True Stories of Faith and Miracles from Latter-Day Temples (also available on Amazon) is gift book written and illustrated by Chad Hawkins. The true experiences and beautiful artwork reflect the peace and beauty of the Lord’s house, and show His hand clearly in the planning and building temples.

Temple Worship: 20 Truths That Will Bless Your Life, by Andrew Skinner, explores doctrine related to the temple, including the atonement, eternal progression, and the redemption of the dead. The truths in this book will help you get more out of your temple worship.

Finally, if we consider conference talks mini-books, here are two classics that never fail to inspire.

Sister Elaine Dalton beautifully illustrates the reciprocal ties between ourselves and our ancestors in “We Did This for You.”

Elder David A. Bednar testifies of the temple’s power to bless our lives in his talk “Honorably Hold a Name and Standing.”

Take some time to enjoy and learn from these words of wisdom “out of the best books” (D&C 88:118). You’ll be glad you did.
